The Greenest Room III: Lemon-Lavender

SPOTTED: The organic fruity-floral Lavender Lemon Drop mix by ModMix, another host of the Oscar's Ultimate Green Room. Modmix has been making the scene--MTV Awards, the premiere of "Lies and Alibis," and into a charity gift bag, hand-picked by Heather Graham.

WHAT CAUGHT OUR EYE: Whether using a mix or homemade, this looks like a good candidate for the drink of the summer. Let's give our mint a rest for a season (sorry, mojitos!), and start snipping the lavender.

GET IT: $14.99 from BTC Elements. Pomegranate cosmopolitan and citrus margarita mixes also available. Or make a Lavender Lemon Drop yourself. Recipes for this '70s California drink vary wildly, some including orangey Triple Sec or Cointreau, or sweet-and-sour mix. Try muddling one sprig of lavender with lemon in most recipes. Or try this less-potent variation from Ocean vodka:

Lemon Blossom

1 part vodka
2 parts fresh, homemade lemonade
1 sprig fresh lavender

Muddle lavender and lemonade in a martini shaker. Add ice and vodka, shake and serve.

Can be served in a sugared martini glass (rub lemon along rim, dip in 1/4 inch fine sugar) and garnished with lavender sprig and lemon twist (maybe a lime twist, too, for color). For virgin Lemon Blossoms, omit vodka. And for a garden party touch that's less tippy, freeze lavender blossoms into lemonade ice cubes and serve with drink in old-fashioned, highball or rocks glasses.
If you've come up with a great recipe, give us a shout. Happy summer!
