Rachael Ray: The Big Blue Chill










SPOTTED: A sassy, beach-blue, blast-from-the-past refrigerator on the hip, downtown-girl set of multitasker Rachael Ray's CBS talk show.

HOW DID IT GET THERE? Production designer Joe Stewart (who created the "Friends" set) started with Ray's beloved re-enameled orange vintage stove and went in search of something to jibe with the eclectic retro feel. Enter The Big Blue Chill. "I thought the blue would be a terrific complement, and, together, they were the core beginning pieces of the set," Stewart said. "She'd be the last person to have a scary modern kitchen."

GET IT: The North Star refrigerator is made by the Ontario, Canada-based Elmira Stove Works and is available in eight other colors. It starts at $3,600 from Vintage Stoves by Stevan Thomas of Kansas, which supplied Ray's refrigerator and, this spring, a stove-refrigerator combo to one of Hollywood's top stars, a two-time Oscar nominee. Another online dealer, Big Chill Fridge, sells a different retro fridge bearing its Big Chill Fridge emblem ($2,700).

You may want to be aware of the current issues surrounding Stevan Thomas Vintage Stoves. The Kansas Attorney General's Office is in the midst of an investigation, and almost 30 complaints have been lodged with the Wichita BBB.

You may also be interested in calling the "Big Chill" folks and ask them about the RR blue refrigerator. It's an interesting story that sheds even more light on Stevan Thomas Radakovich's business practices.

We just got the RR Show to remove their sponsor reference to Vintage Stoves, and are trying to get the word out to protect others from becoming victims.
